This week on June 25th was Austin's first birthday! I really can't believe that he is already a year old. On the other hand I can hardly remember the time before he was born - it seems like he has been with us for so much longer. Moving on from my reminiscing... To celebrate his birthday we had a big pirate-themed party and invited several nearby family members and also friends that have babies around Austin's age. All in all I think we had about 15 adults and 6 babies in attendance.

June 20 - June 23 Adventures

I posted a little bit late this last week, but nonetheless we have still had a few adventures over the past couple of days. Austin learned how to make "Indian" noises (when you pat your mouth while holding a note making a "bababa" sound) and he will do it randomly throughout the day, especially after one of us does it. I love it! Partially, because I taught him how. He has also begun to take handfuls of food and stuff them in his mouth. The foods that have fallen victim to this new practice include bananas, pieces of bagel, and he has even fit a couple of whole strawberries in his mouth at one time.

This past week has been another timeless adventure, especially for Austin. One day, when I came home from work, Jason informed me that while he was sitting on the couch Austin stood up, grabbed each of Jason's hands, and walked away from Jason as if to request his help. Once Austin had taken a few steps and was leaning backwards significantly, Jason assisted him in his walking attempt. Since that incident we have found Austin to be a speedy little walker - he will go as fast as his little legs will take him provided that we are there to help keep his balance.

Happy Birthday Jason!

Today was Jason's 25th birthday. He started the day by opening gifts from my mom first thing in the morning - he seemed to really like the clothing choices and thank goodness almost all of them fit since I helped pick them out. After opening gifts, I went into work and Jason worked on cleaning, but I came home early to spend the rest of the day in order to spend time with him and finish the gift from Austin and I. We got him saddlebags for his motorcycle and after I finished waterproofing them we put them on his bike and he was able to go on a ride.

This week was full of adventures. We were invited to a splish-splash play date with some of the other mommy-baby duos from our ward, but sadly Austin came down with a cold on Tuesday and was still pretty snotty on Friday so we skipped out in order to not get the other babies sick. I think he may have passed his cold along to me as well, because Friday morning I felt I should stay home from work.

First Haircuts

Austin's hair has a tendency to develop into a mullet really easily. I am not a mullet fan and despite Jason wanting to make Austin's hair into a mull-hawk (mohawk-mullet combination), we have decided that his hair looks better short. As a result Austin has already had three buzzed haircuts since his birth and I think we will keep it short at least until he is a little bit older.

Just thought I'd post a few funny faces from Austin. I hope you get a few chuckles out of them like I did. Enjoy!

For your information, I've decided to make this blog a compilation of current and past events in our family's history. Periodically I will probably post a few events that have already happened and I will try to post weekly updates for family and friends to enjoy.
This week was kind of a fun week for Austin. He is getting so interactive and is really getting more of a personality. He is talking and squealing ALL of the time. He is also laughing after I say "ewww" when he tries to get his hands where he isn't supposed to while we change his poopy diapers or make faces when he tries to spit his applesauce on me. He'll also laugh and try to run (or rather crawl) away as fast has he can when he is doing something he shouldn't like trying to climb the stairs without us there.
